Venice, with the iconic St Mark’s Square, Campanile di San Marco and the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. Before starting it I had to decide whether to show Venice taking in the Rialto Bridge or to draw a more in-depth view so I plumped for the latter. The centre of Venice is made up of several small islands, including the San Giorgio Maggiore – which was chosen as the centrepiece of the design directly across from St Mark’s Square. Not for any religious reason but purely for aesthetic harmony the San Giorgio Maggiore building, together with the monastery, achieves perfection with its composition in Venice. It is the key ingredient to the city.
