Edinburgh Looking West

Before starting this Edinburgh image I needed to decide on the direction it should face and chose west. Of course the Castle is the most prominent and very much the focal point penetrating the sky and standing out. Salisbury Crags and Holyrood Palace are in the foreground looking towards the Castle.

The topography was really important, understanding where all the hills and ridges need to be situated and even more so when you’re looking from above. There is the ridge of the hill of the Royal Mile and the old town, Calton Hill, the valley where Waverley Station sits. I even had to cut the image in half during the drawing process to give Waverley Station more space.
